How it started, How it’s going

Hello beautiful people!

It seems like there’s so much happening all the time. I hope you’re here to take a break from it all.

This started as like a personal getaway with the chance of someone else liking what I had to write. Since publishing my website at the start of the year, I’ve had quite the outpour of people ACTUALLY visiting the site and liking what they saw. It surprised me because I really thought that people wouldn’t give me the time of day and bypass everything I would post, but I’ve received multiple subscribers to my newsletter. So if you’re reading this, I can’t thank you enough for giving my written thoughts some sense of purpose and existence.

I’ve also since started graduate school and that’s been…interesting to say the least. It’s alright. It’s gonna be fine. Right? I’ll be fine; it’s just that I’m having a career identity crisis again and that’s been stressing me out.

I’ve worked on four more poems this go around and this is me announcing it! Not a huge deal, because these poems are short but they pack a punch. I find inspiration not only in my own life, but sometimes I try to envision what life is like through other people’s eyes or through the collective eyes of humans. Sometimes I think about a concept at dawn, right as the sun is about to rise and I’m on my car ride home from work—I’ll jot it down on my phone or completely forget about it and it gets lost in the ether. Sometimes I like a word too much and make a story out of it and then it ends up morphing into something more meaningful to me. And mostly, my published poems have subtle traces of my life in them to fossilize and record who I am and who I’ve been, in ways that no Facebook memory will ever remind me of.

I’ve been trying something new—I’m bilingual and I speak Spanish as well as English. It wasn’t until a friend prompted me to write in Spanish that made me create, ‘Un Vínculo’ (which means, ‘a link’) and I am really proud of it. It was fun and I’ll be doing more of that. No worries my non-Spanish speakers, you won’t have to Duolingo your life away to be a friend here— I’ll just write 2-5 English poems for every Spanish one I write. 😉

This leads me to my last point: My new poems are “the game”,”suspension”,”watercolor” and finally “Un Vínculo”. I really hope you enjoy them and I can’t wait to create more. I won’t promise that I’ll have a higher turnover time than these past two months, but the beauty of creation is that it takes time… or something to that poetic effect to convince you that I’m not a serial procrastinator.

Please subscribe to my newsletter which you can find at the bottom of almost any page on this website. I will not only have these blog posts sent straight to your email but I will also add exclusive* thoughts and occasional insights to some pieces that I’ve written. And best of all, it’s free.

Lastly (for real this time), if you’re a person who wants to know more about a poem or want to discuss interpretation, let me know! You can email me via the ‘Contact’ tab and send me questions, comments, concerns, insults, whatever! I genuinely don’t care.

Look! You made it. Thank you for being you and supporting a stranger’s strange perception of reality.

xoxo, ladyofnasrin
